Alaska Craftsman Home Program developed Northern Comfort for the two-day Advanced Cold Climate Homebuilding Techniques Workshop. It is intended to provide students with techniques for building and maintaining a quality home that operates as a system with greater comfort, durability and long-term energy efficiency. This manual is currently the only building text allowed to be used as a open-book resource for the Alaska State Residential Endorsement Test for General Contractors. Register for the class here.
All of the workshops developed and facilitated by ACHP are designed specifically for northern regions. These regions have very diverse climatic zones with extreme temperatures, as well as precipitation, soil, and cultural differences. All of these factors must be taken into consideration when designing workshop programs and building standards to meet the demands of every zone. For this reason, ACHP has developed manuals for each of the workshops, along with curriculum materials, to address these regional requirements.
