Saturday:

10:00am – 12:00pm – How To Choose A Contractor
Hiring a contractor can be one of the most costly or intimidating parts of a home remodel. This course will help to identify common pitfalls in hiring a qualified contractor and show you how to avoid them. We review the importance of hiring a licensed, bonded, and insured contractor as well as how you can minimize risk and increase satisfaction with a job well done.
 
12:00pm – 2:00pm  – Lighting and Appliances
Would the latest in lighting technology make sense, and save cents, for your family? We compare the pros and cons of energy efficient lighting – CFLs and LEDs vs. incandescents. We also explore energy saving features of new appliances.
 
2:00pm – 4:00pm  – Crawl Spaces
Why might your crawlspace need to be improved? Are your floors cold? What are the benefits of insulating and ventilating your crawlspace? Signs include mold, condensation, and more. This class reviews best practices for improving the area for reasons of comfort, building durability, and savings. Includes clips from videos with Alaskan specific information from the Cold Climate Housing Research Center in Fairbanks.
